Scott Gordon Poole
Poole was free on bond on a charge of felony Concealing birth of child. The charge was filed by the Nags Head Police Department in 2021. Poole missed a scheduled court date and an arrest warrant was issued.
As reported bythis website on October 26, 2021, Poole and Robin Lynn Byrum also of Taylorsville were charged after detectives used DNA evidence. The case dates back to an incident in 1991 when Nags Head Police were alerted to human remains found in a trash can rack. Officers found the body of an infant. While at the scene, they were unable to establish Baby Doe’s gender due to decomposition.
In 2019, officers began another re-investigation of the case, sending Baby Doe’s rib bone to a private lab in Texas, for forensic analysis. The lab recovered human DNA from the bone and used that hereditary material to conduct a genealogical profile, which led to the arrest of Poole and Byrum.
Alexander County Deputies arrested the couple in October of 2021.
Poole is being held under a $1 million bond in the Alexander County Detention Center.
