Catawba County Man Pleads Guilty To Murder

Davon Lavell Williams, 25 of Claremont, has entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of 23-year-old Ontorio Nymier Metts of Hickory. Williams was originally charged with first-degree murder.

Williams entered the plea in Catawba County Superior court on May 20.

Williams was sentenced to between 10 years and four months to 13 years and five months in prison. He was given credit for more than two years time served in the Catawba County Detention Center.

On March 20, 2022, Hickory Police responded to a report of gunshots at the Sunny Valley Apartments at 98 Third Ave. SE. Officers found Metts lying on the ground outside an apartment. Metts was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
