Hickory Woman Sentenced To Prison In Drug Trafficking Case

33-year-old Tracy Shane Campos of Hickory, was sentenced to serve seven to 10 years in prison following her conviction for trafficking opioids by transportation during Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday (November 4).

The Honorable Nathaniel J. Poovey, Superior Court Judge from Catawba County, imposed terms of the active sentence after Campos entered a guilty plea, along with a mandatory fine of $750,000.

Campos was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for speeding along U.S. 321 on April 25, 2025. As she was approached by a deputy, she tried to hide a container under her leg, but it popped open and a white, powdery substance was observed.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed multiple bags of powdery substances along with two handguns. Analysis of the substances by the State Crime Lab confirmed it to be a trafficking amount of fentanyl. The driver of the vehicle is a co-defendant. His case is still pending.

Samuel Helms handled the investigation for the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Wesley Crowe and Daniel Ikerd. Assistant District Attorney Taylor Rockett prosecuted the matter for the State with aid from Legal Assistant Britnee Ulsamer.
