Two Killed In Crash Near Sparta

SPARTA – On Wednesday, July 12, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Alleghany County on US 21 near Deer Haven Road.  A 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling south on US 21, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a northbound 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
 
The driver of the Harley Davidson, Travis Ryan Ferguson, 49, of Raleigh, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  The passenger, Shelly Delynn Pittman, 47, of Raleigh, was also ejected and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
 
The driver of the Ford, Gavin Mikhail Mustin, 16, of Glade Valley, was not injured.   
 
US 21 was closed in the area for over two hours during the on-scene investigation.  Mustin was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and left of center
