Troutman Man Armed With Crowbar Shot By Iredell County Deputy

A Troutman man wanted for several felony charges was shot Wednesday morning during an altercation with an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy.

Jessie Michael Teno, age 30, was treated for a gunshot wound at a medical facility and released. He was then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was jailed in lieu of a $309,000 bond.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, the shooting occurred shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday after ICSO Warrant Squad deputies went to a residence on Rebekah Lane, east of Troutman, to serve Teno with warrants charging him with Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense, Assault on a Governmental Official, two counts of Common Law Uttering, Larceny and five counts of Failure to Appear for Felony Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense, and Violation of a Court Order.

After locating Teno at the residence, a Warrant Squad deputy announced his presence, Campbell said in a news release. The suspect, who was armed with a crowbar, then rushed toward the deputy, the sheriff said.
Teno resisted the deputy who was attempting to take him into custody, according to the news release. During the struggle with the deputy, the suspect was shot, Campbell said. Even after being shot, the suspect continued to fight with the deputy before being subdued, he added.

The suspect was treated by deputies until Iredell County EMS personnel arrived at the scene.

The area was secured by additional deputies, who responded to assist. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation respond to the scene to investigate the shooting, which is standard practice for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for a deputy-involved shooting.

Teno is charged with Felony Assault on a Governmental Official, Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer, and Misdemeanor Damage to Property, as well as being served with all of the outstanding warrants.
The deputy involved was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. He was then placed on administrative leave, which is also standard practice.
