Motorcycle Rider Dies In Caldwell County Accident

Lenoir – On Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, at approximately 12:19 p.m., The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on U.S. 64 near Ward Green Lane, in Caldwell County.
 
A 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling West on U.S. 64. A 2018 Honda Pilot was stopped in the travel lane due to heavy traffic. The motorcycle failed to reduce speed before colliding with the back left quarter of the Honda Pilot. The motorcycle then deflected off the Honda Pilot into the oncoming east bound lane. The motorcycle then collided into an oncoming 2003 GMC pickup truck in the East bound travel lane.
 
The driver of the motorcycle Jackie Wayne Mayo, 68, of Lincolnton succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 
 
The driver of the Honda Pilot, Jose Isai Sambrano-Lopez, 24, of Lenoir did not sustain any injuries.
 
The driver of the GMC Pickup truck, Alan Clint Church, 66, of Lenoir did not sustain any injuries.
