A man has survived a drug overdose and he has some quick acting Taylorsville Police officers to thank.
On the evening of Wednesday, March 27th, a 911 call was received reporting a drug overdose at the Taylorsville Motel on East Main. Taylorsville officers T.D. Land and Zack Hollar were quickly on the scene.
A witness at the motel indicated a man found on the floor of a room had injected heroin. The man had no sign of a pulse nor evidence of breathing. Officer Land administered Narcan nasal spray to the subject. Narcan counteracts the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose. Alexander County EMS arrived on the scene and continued treatment but it was obvious that the quick action by officer Land had almost certainly saved the man’s life.
According to the incident report, it’s possible the heroin used was laced with Fentanyl which is significantly more potent than heroin. Taylorsville Police Chief Dennis James praised his officers for the quick action, “they did a great job” James said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for additional treatment but he should realize he owes his life to quick acting Taylorsville Police officers.
