Taylorsville Man Charged For Possession Of Live Grenade

A Taylorsville man is facing charges after a live grenade was found to be in his possession.

Taylorsville Police arrested 48-year old Sean Arthur Smail on Thursday, May 8th when the device was discovered during the process of an eviction. Smail was charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction and placed in the Alexander County Detention Center where he remains as of earlier today, under a secured bond of $50,000.

The Wilkes County Bomb Squad was summoned to deactivate the device.

Smail has an initial court appearance scheduled for today in Alexander County District Court.

A long list of other pending charges against Smail await trial including felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, felony probation violation and assault on a female. Smail has additional court dates on those charges scheduled for June 30th and July 17th.
