A Hickory man will spend several years behind bars after pleading guilty to an armed robbery charge in Catawba County Superior Court.

33-year-old Jarrell Tyshon Powell was sentenced to seven to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon on Monday, March 9.

The sentence was handed down by Superior Court Judge Nathaniel J. Poovey on the day Powell’s case was scheduled to go to trial.

The case was investigated by Benjamin Rogers with the Hickory Police Department. Assistant District Attorney Kyle Smith prosecuted the case for the state with assistance from Legal Assistant Stacey London.
