On Sunday, April 7th, at around 9:19 pm, the Alexander County 911 center received a call to respond to Fowler Hill Rd south of Taylorsville regarding stolen property.
Officers located stolen property in the residence at 73 Fowler Hill Rd. During the search Officers also located a possible explosive device and secured the scene.
The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was contacted for assistance in accessing the explosive device. Because of the proximity of the device to Millersville Baptist Church, the staff was contacted. Millersville Christian Academy and Millersville Child Development Center chose to open school with a 2-hour delay. The bomb squad arrived on scene Monday, April 8th, around 8:30 am. Bomb technicians stated that the explosive was a live device and was rendered safe. As the search continued a second explosive device was located. That device too was rendered safe.
The Sheriff’s Office and Millersville Baptist Church staff worked together to make sure no one was in harms way during the investigation. The Millersville Christian Academy and Child Development was later closed for the day.
Around 10:04 am on Monday, Deputies arrested Robert Alan Goins, age 31 of Taylorsville. Goins was charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia.Goins is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center without bond. An initial court apperance is scheduled for on April 15th, 2024.
Today’s arrest is at least the third for Goins in Alexander County since February.
He was arrested by Taylorsville Police on March 26th and charged with breaking and entering. On the 19th of February, Goins was arrested by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and charged with larceny. He was also served warrant for failure to appear on charges of failure to report an accident.
