Sheriff”s Office Still Investigating Bomb Threat To Schools

November 19, 2018 By Richard C. Gilbert

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into a letter that was intercepted last week. The letter was apparently written by an inmate at the Alexander Correctional Institute in Taylorsville. The letter indicated that someone would “blow up” three schools on December 27th. The campuses were not specified and schools would be on their Christmas break on that date.

County Chief Deputy Todd Jones said this morning that extra officers are being stationed at and around schools. The threat is being taken very seriously according to Jones. He declined to comment on the investigation other than to reiterate what was reported on Friday that a person of interest has been identified and that person has been questioned for “a number of hours.” No charges have been filed at this time.

County Schools issued a statement this morning indicating that the administration is working with law enforcement as the investigation is ongoing. Classes in the system will be on Thanksgiving break beginning Wednesday and will return on Monday November 26th.
