March 17, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

NEWTON – An 8-mile stretch of U.S. 321 Business in Catawba County is one of eight sections of roads the N.C. Department of Transportation will resurface over the next year.

Maymead Inc., of Mountain City, Tennessee, earned the $4.8 million contract with NCDOT to resurface more than 14 miles of roads, including:
• U.S. 321 Business from Lincoln County to N.C. 16
• First Street Southwest from Fairgrove Church Road to N.C. 16 Business
• Second Avenue Southeast from First Avenue Southwest to N.C. 127
• Turtle Dove Road from Springs Road to the end of the road
• Puett Park Drive from Adams Street to the end of the road
• Barbara Drive from Adams Street to Puett Park Drive
• Terry Street from Barbara Drive to the cul-de-sac
• Coral Way from Adams Street to the end of the road

Crews can begin resurfacing as early as March 30.
The contract restricts lane closures during rush hour or holidays. It calls for resurfacing to finish by fall 2027.
