Panning And Zoning Commission Considers Gun Range Tonight

January 10, 2019 By Richard C. Gilbert

A public hearing will be held this evening after being postponed last week because too many showed up for the location where it was scheduled. The meeting of the Alexander County Planning and Zoning Commission will take place at 6pm at the Alexander Central High School Auditorium in Taylorsville.

Landon Ferguson is proposing to locate a gun range and retail gun store on a 67 acre parcel of land located off Teague Town Road in the Wittenburg Community. It has some people less than pleased. Ferguson has applied for the permit and has vowed that the range will be as safe as possible. Some, including Carol Mitchell who lives nearby are not convinced of the safety or the noise it would bring.

Last week, prior to the originally scheduled meeting, both Ferguson and Mitchell offered their side of the issue. Click on the link to listen. Note that the times mentioned in the interviews refer to the original time, date, and location.
