Man Who Led Taylorsville Police On High-Speed Chase Facing More Than 40 New Charges

A Sanford, North Carolina man in jail after a car chase in crash in Alexander County is now facing more than 40 additional charges.

On June, 8th, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office charged 20-year old Amari Rayvon Matos with 44 counts of discharging a weapon occupied property.

On May 24th, Taylorsville Police arrested Matos following a high-speed chase that ended with a crash on US 64 in Iredell County.

Police learned that a car reported as stolen in Greensboro was in Taylorsville. An Officer spotted the suspect 2007 BMW. The driver of the car (Matos) accelerated and refused to stop for blue lights and siren on US 64 East. Police attempted to perform a rolling road-block near Adams Pond Lane but the car continued east. The BMW was clocked at speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour and continued into Iredell County where it attempted to turn onto Lippard Farm Road. Matos lost control, hit a ditch and went airborne before coming to rest upside down. The operator (only occupant) of the car was pinned in the wreckage.

Matos was freed from the wreckage and charged with the following charges by the Taylorsville Police Department.

Felony-Flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle
Felony-Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
Felony-Felony possession of schedule II control substance (methamphetamine)
Reckless driving with wanton disregard
Speeding in excess of 130 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone
Driving with license revoked
Possession of stolen goods
Possession of schedule VI controlled substance
Possession of marijuana paraphernalia
Carrying a concealed gun

He was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a secured bond of $150,000.

On May 25th, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office charged Matos with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and a charge of felony conspiracy to commit murder.

The most recent charges from Harnett County are related to a reported drive-by shooting where over 100 shots were fired into a residence. According to a media report,there were no injuries and the shooting was considered gang related.

Matos is now being held in the Alexander County Jail with a total bond $2,050,000. His next court appearance in Taylorsville is scheduled for June 27th.
