A shooting that occurred in Lenoir and resulted in a man being sent to the hospital is currently under investigation. Friday (February 17), shortly after 12 a.m. Lenoir Police responded to a call in reference to a shooting that occurred in the alleyway behind a business at 812 West Avenue.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that a Lenoir man encountered a Connelly Springs man in the alleyway behind the business. According to the investigation, it appears that the individual who was shot entered a vehicle belonging to the Lenoir man and removed items from inside the vehicle.
As the theft victim discovered the man breaking into his vehicle, a struggle ensued between the two men. At some point during the struggle, the vehicle’s owner brandished a .22 caliber handgun and reportedly shot the Connelly Springs man. The individual who was shot was transported to UNC Health Caldwell for initial treatment of his injuries; he was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. No other information will be released at this time.
