Unemployment increased across the region and across the state during the month of December. The North Carolina Department of Commerce released the latest county by county unemployment figures this week.
Alexander County 3.3 up from 2.9 percent in November
Caldwell County 4.1 up from 3.6 percent in November
Wilkes County 3.8 up from 3.4 percent in November
Catawba County 3.4 up from 3.1 percent in November
Iredell County 3.8 up from 3.5 percent in November
The state wide unemployment rate was at 3.8 percent during the month of December, up from 3.5 percent in November.
Highest unemployment in state, Hyde County at 8.6 percent. Lowest unemployment rate is Buncombe County at 3.1 percent.
