On Wednesday October 31, 2018 School Resource Officer A. Lawrence was notified by a staff member of West Iredell High School about a threat a student had made on the day before about bringing a “Glock to school and shooting it up”.
Threat Assessment Investigator D. Hicks and SRO Supervisor G. Cranford responded to the school and were able to identify the suspect as well as witnesses who heard the threat. All of the individuals were interviewed and based on the evidence gathered, the suspect a 14 Year Old male was charged with one count of Felony False Report of Mass Violence on Educational Property. The charges were turned over to Juvenile Services.
Sheriff Darren Campbell also said, “This case is a shining example of how well we work with the school system and how quickly situations like this can be handled when the proper assets are in place. No student or staff member was danger and no weapon was located on school grounds. I want to be absolutely clear, we will not tolerate any threats or acts of violence to students or staff members in the school system”.
