Morganton – On Wednesday, May 15, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on Conley Road near Jeeter Carswell Road. A 2006 Ford Taurus was traveling south on Conley Road, drove off the right side of the road, and struck a house.

The driver, Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson, 23, of Morganton, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

During the on-scene investigation, it was determined the vehicle’s windshield had been struck by a thrown rock, resulting in a fatal head injury to the driver.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Chevrolet S-10 single-cab truck driving back and forth in the area following the collision. Witnesses stated a white male was seen riding in the bed of the truck.

The Highway Patrol requests the public’s assistance in identifying the truck and asks that anyone who can provide any further information concerning this fatal collision contact the Highway Patrol at 828-466-5500. The investigation is ongoing.
