Three teens have been charged with murder in the death of 8-year-old Ah’Miyahh Howell and the shooting of a second child in Statesville last month. Another teen has also been charged but he remains at-large.

Statesville Police announced the arrests on Friday in the following press release:

On Monday June 28, 2021, at 6:56 pm, the Statesville Police Department responded to a call of subjects shot at 1309 Wilson Lee Boulevard. Officers located Ah’Miyahh Howell (8-year-old) and Tariq Lowery (7-year-old) suffering from gunshot wounds outside of the residence. Officers immediately began life saving efforts until EMS arrived. Both children were transported to the hospital, but tragically Ah’Miyahh Howell succumbed to her injuries.

The Statesville Police Department reached out to the community for assistance in solving this crime. We were told several people were outside when the shooting began, however no witnesses have come forward. Statesville Police Department, with the assistance of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, was able to locate and seize two vehicles in connection with the homicide. The first vehicle is a 2003 White Honda Accord and the second a 2013 White Mercedes C250. Forensic evidence obtained from the vehicles, combined with investigative leads and evidence from the crime scene, allowed for the identification of suspects involved in the murder of Ah’Miyahh Howell and the injury of Tariq Lowery.
