Fatal Crash Reported Monday Morning In Iredell County

March 16, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

STATESVILLE- On Monday, March 16th at approximately 9:52 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on I-40 near the 154 mile marker, in Iredell County.

A 2010 Toyota Highlander was traveling East bound on I-40 when it lost control and drove off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck an embankment and overturned several times.

The driver of the Toyota, Lee Glover, 78, of Morganton, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision. Mr. Glover was not wearing his seat-belt.

The front seat passenger, Catherine Glover, of Morganton, was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation shows impairment was not suspected but concluded exceeding a safe speed for conditions, contributed to the collision. I-40 remained open during the investigation.
