***Breaking News*** Alexander County Man Charged With Statutory Rape After Thursday Evening Standoff

An Alexander County man was arrested overnight and charged with rape.

Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Vashti Community around 11:16 pm. While enroute, Officers learned that the suspect was armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself.

When Deputies arrived, a brief stand-off ensued with the suspect. After approximately 6 minutes, the suspect surrendered the firearm, and was taken into custody.

32-year old Christopher Michael Clark of Taylorsville is charged with felony statutory sexual offense and indecent liberties with a child.

Clark is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center under a secured bond of $825,000 and is scheduled to appear in Alexander County District Court on Monday, June 26th.
