53-year old Alphonso Saladin Jones of Wilkesboro pleaded guilty to discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Wilkes County Superior Court. A Judge gave Jones credit for nearly two years spent in the Wilkes County Jail after he was arrested in early December 2019, about a week after the incident occurred. The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office also charged Jones with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Those charges were dismissed.
Jones was charged with firing a gun into the vehicle driven by then 18-year old Gibson Carter Brondos of Wilkesboro on November 29th, 2019. A bullet grazed Brondos resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators say Jones had became enraged with Brondos claiming he was using high-beam headlights and following too closely.
