Wilkes County Teacher Arrested And Suspended

February 18, 2019 By Richard C. Gilbert

Phillip Bare

A teacher in Wilkes County was issued a criminal summons Thursday for allegedly having drug paraphernalia on campus.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by administrators at Wilkes Central High School about an incident involving a teacher and possible drug use taking place on campus. School resource officers conducted an investigation into the allegations and found a rubber tourniquet, six empty syringes, a butane lighter and a metal spoon. Deputies assisted in the investigation, which took place around noon on Thursday. It’s unclear where exactly the paraphernalia was located.

Thirty-five-year-old Phillip Bare of Boomer was charged with one count of drug paraphernalia possession. Bare is a math teacher at Wilkes Central and has suspended without pay pending further investigation.
