An investigation is ongoing after one person was shot and killed on Blowing Rock Road near a Bojangles Restaurant Friday afternoon in Boone.
On Friday, August 11, at 2:30 p.m., officers with the Boone Police Department responded to the area of Blowing Rock Road for a reported shooting. Responding officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound laying in the highway at the intersection of Winkler’s Creek Road. The male was transported to Watauga Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased, according to Boone Police.
The deceased man was identified as Justin W. Newberry, 38. of Boone.
According to Boone Police, this was an isolated incident that stemmed from an apparent road rage occurrence.
The shooter who has not been identified is cooperating with law enforcement investigators, according to a Boone Police Department press release.
Appalachian State University Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Watauga Medics and Boone Fire assisted with this incident.
