Two Fatal Accidents Friday Afternoon In Iredell County

July 15, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Two fatal crashes were reported Friday afternoon in Iredell County.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on Amity Hill Road near Tucker Road. A 2004 Honda motorcycle was traveling east on Amity Hill Road, drove off the right side of the road, and struck a tree.
The driver of the motorcycle, Tony Jason Hedrick, 52, of Statesville, was ejected from the motorcycle and transported by EMS to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

During the on-scene investigation, Amity Hill Road was closed in the area for one hour.  The initial investigation indicates impairment to be the contributing circumstance in the collision.

Around 6:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on Island Ford Road at Old Miller Road. A 2013 Honda Civic was traveling south on Old Miller Road, attempted to turn left from a stop sign onto Island Ford Road, and turned in front of a westbound 2003 Dodge Ram.
The driver of the Honda, Christopher Alexander Rodriguez, 18, of Troutman, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge, Eli Daniel Pope, 19, of Statesville, was not injured.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor and no charges will be filed in this case.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately four hours.
