Troopers In Burke County Detain Suspects Wanted For Slaying Of Wake County Deputy

August 16, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

In Burke County on Tuesday afternoon, North Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers detained two men who were being sought in the slaying of a Wake County Deputy last week.

Troopers stopped two cars on Interstate 40 near Causby and Kathy roads. The two men were driving in separate vehicles and have not been identified nor formally charged. Both were sought in connection with the Thursday, August 11th shooting death of Wake County Deputy Ned Byrd. The 13-year law enforcement veteran was gunned down on a section of Battle Bridge Road in Raleigh.

Tuesday night, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the two men taken into custody are connected to the case involving the slaying of Deputy Byrd.

The North Carolina Sheriff’s Association was offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Byrd’s death.
