Two men were arrested last week in Burke County after they were found in a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Burke County Jail.
Dusty Eugene Hicks, 39, of Morganton, was charged with outstanding warrants that include felony common law armed robbery and possession of stolen goods along with three misdemeanor counts of failure to appear, according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.Also charged was Terry Leon Holland Jr., 35, who was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in prison or jail and misdemeanor resisting arrest and failure to appear on a trespassing charge.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that the duo were in a stolen vehicle.
A short time later, Deputies spotted the suspect auto. The simply followed the vehicle to the jail parking lot. Hicks was taken into custody without incident.
Holland, a passenger in the vehicle, fled on foot into a wooded area nearby. Later he entered the jail and attempted to bond-out a suspect. When deputies searched him, they found he had brought methamphetamine into the detention facility.
More methamphetamine was found in the stolen vehicle.
Hicks was detained under a bond of $75,000. Holland was held under a bond listed at $15,000.
Both have court appearances next week in Burke County District Court.
