Word of the Day; barn burner [bahrn-bur-ner] something that is highly impressive, exiting, thrilling. The term is often used to reflect on a close, dramatic athletic event. The term in it’s literal form refers to the practice of burning down a barn to get rid of rats. It was used often by sports writers and broadcasters beginning in the early 1950’s. “The game was a barn burner decided in the final seconds.”
