A man elected to the Alexander County Board of Education has surrendered his position after informing the Board he has moved from the district he was elected to represent.
Mathew L. Reese ran unopposed in District 4. That district had been represented by Marty Pennell who did not seek another term when he filed for, and won election to the Alexander County Board of Commissioners. Reese was elected but according to a letter sent to the school board, he moved out of the district after filing for office.
According to County Board of Elections Director Patrick Wike, Reese will not be allowed to take a seat on the board. The vacancy can be filled by the Board of Education in any manner they wish. The person selected will serve until the next general election which is 2020. At that time the position will be on the ballot for a regular 4 year term.
District 4 is comprised of Sugar Loaf, Gwaltney I and II, Sharpes I and II, and Millers I precincts.
