He became active in the Sheriff’s Office Explorers program at the age of 14 and continued in the program until he was sworn in as an officer at age 21. Moore earned his Criminal Justice degree and graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training in December 1996 from Wilkes Community College.
Moore was hired by Sheriff Ray Warren in March 1997 when he began working full-time as a Deputy in the Detention Center. In 1998, he transitioned to road patrol and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2004 by Sheriff Hayden Bentley. From 2009-2012, he served as the Traffic Unit Deputy after a grant for the position was received from the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Moore also served as the sheriff’s office grant coordinator during that time. In 2012, he was promoted by Sheriff Chris Bowman to Patrol Lieutenant. In 2018, Moore was promoted to Patrol Captain. He has served as a Major since 2020.
During his long career with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Moore served under Sheriffs Ray Warren, the late Hayden Bentley, Chris Bowman, and Chad Pennell.
Commissioner Ronnie Reese presented a plaque of appreciation at the reception. “On behalf of the Alexander County Board of Commissioners, I’d like to thank you for your sacrifice and dedication to Alexander County and our citizens,” said Reese.
Moore was presented with his badge, service weapon, and a special gift from his coworkers – a hunting rifle.
