A man who was mistakenly released on Friday from the Burke County Jail is back in custody.
27-year old Vance Edward Hinson Jr was set-free Friday evening after he identified himself as another inmate who was in the process of being released. Burke County Sheriff Steve Whisenant says the jail is severly understaffed and protocol for release was not followed. Hinson was actually given the man’s clothes that was to be released.Hinson was taken back into custody Tuesday afternoon after deputies got a tip he was in a Morganton home. He was found in the attic area of the residence. He has been charged with felony escape. He was originally behind bars for failure to appear, possession of Schedule I controlled substance and a probation violation.
