Ahmed Nagi Mohamed Aldaibani, 27, is charged with breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, assault by strangulation, sexual battery, assault on a female, false imprisonment and resisting a public officer, the Statesville Police Department said in a news release.
Statesville police officers were sent to a reported active break-in at a home on N. Oakland Avenue around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. The homeowner told the officers an unknown man broke into her home while she was sleeping and assaulted her, Statesville police said.
A warrant filed against Aldaibani said a cord was wrapped around the woman’s neck and pulled tightly to strangle her. The warrant also accused Aldaibani of reaching into the woman’s shirt and attempting to remove her pants. The warrant said the woman was forced to the ground.
The woman escaped and sought help from a neighbor. The neighbor called 911. The man, later identified as Aldaibani, fled the scene before officers arrived, Statesville police said.
The victim gave a description of the suspect. Additional officers in the area saw a man matching the victim’s description near Alexander Street. When officers approached the man, he ran away. The officers apprehended the man a short distance away.
Aldaibani is being held under a $150,000 bond in the Iredell County Jail.
