HICKORY- On Thursday, February 19th at approximately 06:42 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision involving a pedestrian on I-40, in Catawba County.
A 2025 Acura Integra was traveling East on I40 and collided with a pedestrian in the roadway.
The pedestrian, Bruce Matthew Hoyle, 35, of Hickory succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Acura, Karen Leslie Walker, 48, of Hickory was treated for minor injuries.
The initial investigation concluded Mr. Hoyle walked out into oncoming traffic. Speed or impairment are not contributing factors in this collision. There will be no charges in this case.
While Troopers conducted the on-scene investigation I-40 East bound lanes were partially closed for several hours.
