A man is jailed without bond after police say he sparked a tense standoff at the Walmart Market in Hudson Friday afternoon.
Hudson Police responded around 1 p.m. to reports of an armed subject at the store. Investigators say 24-year-old Alexander James Little of Emerald Circle in Morganton, called 911 claiming he saw a man enter the business with a hand grenade, then gave dispatchers a detailed description of himself.
Officers found Little (pictured) inside the store and made contact. Police say he then pulled a hand grenade from his pocket, prompting an evacuation of the store and a perimeter around the scene.
During the standoff, officers say Little made threats indicating he intended to detonate the device. Authorities determined the grenade was inert and used less-lethal force to take him into custody without injuries.
Little is charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, false bomb report, and going armed to the terror of the public. He is being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center under no bond. A Monday (May 4) court date was scheduled.
