Hiddenite Man Charged With Assaulting Deputy After Vehicle Chase

An Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 64-90 in Hiddenite early Sunday morning. The driver failed to heed the blue lights and siren. A pursuit followed and ended in the Vashti Community.

36-year old Michael Chad Rood of Hiddenite was taken into custody following an altercation with Officers. He allegedly assaulted a Deputy and kicked a patrol vehicle before being arrested. Rood is charged with careless and reckless driving, driving with license revoked, flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and vandalism with damage to personal property.

The suspect remains in the Alexander County Detention Center with a secured bond of $75,000 and was schedule to appear in Alexander County District Court on Monday.
