Hickory Man Gets Prison Sentence For 2024 Workplace Stabbing

July 10, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Nicholas Aundrey Propst

Nicholas Aundrey Propst, 43, of Hickory, has been sentenced to an active prison term of 11 to 14 years for a 2024 workplace stabbing.

Superior Court Judge Karen Eady-Williams of Mecklenburg County imposed the sentence Thursday, July 9, in Catawba County Superior Court after Propst pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The stabbing happened around 3:30 a.m. on August 23, 2024, at Shuford Yarns, where both Propst and the victim worked. Long View police responded to a report of a stabbing and found a male employee with multiple wounds.

According to the initial investigation, Propst stabbed the victim several times, first in the back, with additional lacerations to the face and shoulder. The victim was taken to a hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

Propst left the scene on a bicycle and was apprehended a short distance away by Long View Police with assistance from Hickory Police and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Propst was on probation at the time of the stabbing, following a February 2024 Catawba County conviction for felony drug possession and misdemeanor breaking and entering, and was also charged with a probation violation after his arrest.
