41-year old John Paul Bryant was transferred from the Caldwell County Jail on Wednesday. As reported earlier, Bryant was tracked into Alexander County on April 21st in a stolen vehicle. Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted the vehicle on All Healing Springs Road in the Ellendale Community. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase followed. The chase lasted around 3.5 miles on All Healing Springs Road, Three Forks Church Road, Gil Childers Road, and Robinette Road.
Onstar Satellite technology disabled the vehicle on Robinette Road. During the chase, two Alexander County Sheriff’s Office vehicles sustained minor damage.
Bryant was arrested after confronting officers and resisting arrest. He was charged with two counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, three counts of Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest, one count of Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and one count of Felony Flee/Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. Additionally, Bryant was charged with Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Break/Enter a Motor Vehicle from Caldwell County.
He was placed at that time in the Alexander County Detention Center under a secured bond of $180,000. Bryant, a former Taylorsville resident is no stranger to local law enforcement. Following his arrest in April, Sheriff Chris Bowman said “We’re very familiar with this man, we’ve arrested him many times over the years, and he keeps getting out on bond, it’s frustrating.”
Bryant has a series of court dates in both Alexander and Caldwell County.
