A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was confirmed near the state border of Tennessee and North Carolina Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
At 9:10 a.m., the USGS confirmed that an 3.5 magnitude earthquake, which was detected across the region as far as Greenback, Maryville, Seymour and Atlanta, Georgia. Around 9:20 a.m., the agency updated the magnitude rating to 4.1.
According to a report from the USGS, the earthquake happened about 12 miles southeast of Greenback around 9:04 a.m. The agency reported that the earthquake was about 16 miles under the surface.
The quake was felt in Alexander, Catawba, Burke, and Caldwell counties. No damages have been reported at this time.
