STATESVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $260.3 million contract to the Lane Construction Corp. of Cheshire, CT to build out the next phase of improvements where Interstate 40 and Interstate 77 meet in Iredell County.
The project includes widening approximately 7.4 miles of both interstates from four lanes to eight lanes, and to build a partial turbine interchange, where left-turn ramps are separated but at the same level. Bridges over I-77 at East Broad Street and Davie Avenue will also be replaced.
The contractor can work in non-permitted areas in the spring of 2019, with construction gearing up next fall. The project should be completed by the end of 2022.
As required by state law, the contract went to the lowest qualified bidder. The contract cost came in about $23.5 million under engineer estimates.
