December 6, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

Tony Allen Brittain II

A Claremont man is headed to prison.

47-year old Tony Allen Brittain II will serve a minimum of nine years for the killing of 28-year old Kevin Ray Hefner. Brittain entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder on Monday in Catawba County Superior Court. The judge sentenced him to 108 months to 142 months in prison.

On Nov. 4, 2017, Brittain and his daughter Halie Brittain Lassman went to Hefner’s home to retrieve money for drugs Lassman had purchased earlier that day. According to testimony, Hefner refused to return Lassman’s money when she found the drugs purchased were fake.

Later Lassman and her father, Tony Allen Brittain II returned to Hefner’s home. Brittain was armed with a shotgun. Brittain shot and killed Hefner when he opened the door to the residence.

Lassman is charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Her next court date is scheduled for February 7th, 2022.
