A Sherrills Ford man has been charged after he struck two highway construction flaggers on Monday. Ryan Scott Tanner, 23, of Valdese, succumbed to his injuries at the scene on Highway 150 in Catawba County. The other flagger was taken to a Catawba County Hospital and was last listed in stable condition.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol announced on Wednesday that 80-year old Jerry Lee Johnson has been charged with h misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid colliding with a person. His first court appearance is on December 8th, 2023.
The roadway was clearly marked as a construction zone according the Highway Patrol.
