November 16, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

John Phillip Barkley

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Stony Point man and charged him with a series of offenses after he was accused of assault.

59-year old John Phillip Barkley is charged with indecent liberties with a student, sexual battery, stalking, and assault on a female. The victim is reported to be a student at Mitchell Community College in Statesville. Barkley is the campus grounds supervisor. When notified of the complaint by the student, Barkley was placed on administrative leave.

The student told investigators that the stalking started on the Mitchell campus in October. Barkley reportedly followed her to and from classes, to her vehicle, as well as yelling at her and beating on her car window.

Barkley has been placed in the Alexander County Detention Center with a secured bond of $10,000. No court information is listed.
