A man has entered a plea in connection to the death of an child in Alexander County.
27-year-old Justin Lon Carver was charged in connection to the death of 17 month old Camden Hudson. Hudson died of injuries incurred on September 23rd, 2016. Hudson sustained injures while Carver was attending to him. Carver was reported to be in a relationship with the child’s mother when he called Alexander County 911 reporting that a baby had fallen from a sofa while the mother was at work. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office determined that the injuries sustained by Hudson were not consistent with what Carver had reported. Hudson was placed on life support and died a few days later of severe trauma.Carver was arrested and charged initially with felony intentional child abuse/inflicting bodily injury. He has been held in the Alexander County Detention Center since his arrest in 2016.
Carver entered an Alford Plea which does not admit guilt but concedes that the evidence presented by the prosecution would be likely to persuade a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Carver was sentenced to 64-89 months in prison but was given credit for time served which was 917 days. Attorney Robert Campbell represented Carver.
