A Newton man has been arrested on felony child abuse charges in Alexander County.
38-year old Nathan James Sigmon was arrested Tuesday by Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with felony child abuse. The charges are in connection with an earlier arrest on July 16th of 30-year old Joanna Marie Teague of the Bethlehem Community. As previously reported, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a juvenile being treated at an area hospital. The child had injuries consistent with child abuse according to the medical professionals. Detectives began an investigation and determined charges should be filed. Teague was charged with felony negligent child abuse with serious bodily injury. The child was later transferred to a another medical facility and has since been released and is living with a guardian. Teague remains in the Alexander County Detention Center with a secured bond of $200,000.Sigmon is being held under a secured bond of $400,000. He is scheduled to appear in Alexander County District Court on Monday, August 2nd.
