In response to request to investigate a complaint involving the Alexander County Department of Social Services, some facts have been revealed.
On Monday, March 17th the Alexander County Department of Social Services began a training session for prospective foster parents much like they did in 2024.
B86 News has learned that in 2024, three families completed the training session but were not given credit for their efforts. The training for the families in question was never documented by Alexander County DSS Staff.
Alexander DSS has acknowledged that training records were not completed due to a representative failing to document the process which is required by the state. Pursuant to personel restrictions the name of the representative can’t be released. Alexander County Public Information Director Gary Herman says that the then-staff member is no longer an employee of DSS. Herman says the families in question have been contacted and every effort is being made to rectify the situation.
A statement was released by David Moose, Consolidated Human Services Director: “We completely understand these families’ frustration. This is not a systemic issue – it is an isolated occurrence – and I have worked closely with DSS Director Keri Jerrell to implement measures to ensure this never happens again. We are working diligently to remedy this situation and assist these families in becoming foster parents. We appreciate their patience and understanding.”
