Ashe County Man Charged With Stealing An Ambulance

A West Jefferson man has been charged with stealing an ambulance.

24-year old Austin Alberto Hernandez was arrested Tuesday January 18th by the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, Hernandez stole the ambulance from the Ashe County Rescue Squad building. The charges include first degree burglary, breaking and entering, larceny after a breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He’s also is charged with no operator’s license, possession of marijuana and felony possession of methamphetamine.

Officers found Hernandez and the ambulance while responding to a breaking and entering call on Nettle Knob Road in Ashe County. The residents reported an ambulance was parked in front of their home, and someone was in their basement.

Hernandez is being held under a secured bond of $250,000 in the Ashe County Detention Center.
