The Lady Cougars led by two after three quarters but the home-standing Patriots controlled the final period 20-12. Christina Rhone led Freedom with 17 points including 8-10 from the free throw line. Zakiah King added 13 with 11 rebounds. Chesney Stikeleather was tops for ACHS with 21. Alexander Central falls to 3-2 in Northwestern Conference play and 15-3 overall. Freedom is 1-2 and 12-3.

The visiting Cougars outscored the Patriots in every quarter handing Freedom their first conference defeat. Up 30-21 at half, the Cougars frustrated Freedom holding them to 30 percent shooting on the night. The Blue and Gold dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Morganton team 42-23. Avery Cook led the Cougars with 19, Evan Presnell had 13 and Grayson Presnell 10. Dusty Sigmon had 9 rebounds to go with his 9 points. The win moves Alexander Central into first place in league play at 4-1 and 16-3 overall. Freedom drops to 3-1 and 11-5.
