The Baby Cougars opened their season with a win over rival Statesville Thursday evening in Taylorsville.
The Baby Cougars scored on the games first play from scrimmage when hb Graham Hoke hit Adian Baity on a 71 yard scoring pass. Cole Pennell ran into the end zone for the conversion and 24 seconds into the game, AC led 8-0.
Blake Combs would catch a 23 yard pass for a score with 4:27 left in the first half, the conversion failed and Alexander Central was up 14-0.
Statesville would score on a 21-yard pass play with 4 seconds left in the first half, the conversion was unsuccessful and the game was 14-6 in favor of the home team at the half.
The two teams went scoreless in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
AC out gained Statesville 193 to 173.
Blake Combs led the Baby Cougars on the ground with 44 yards. Austin Arrowood was tops in tackles with 7.
