Taylorsville: Alexander Central opened the 2022-2023 season with a win over Tabernacle Christian Friday night.
The visitors from Hickory opened with a 19-15 lead after the first quarter. The two teams went to the half tied at 25.
The second half was all Cougars. ACHS led 40-34 after 3 quarters and iced the game in the final period.
Avery Cook led the scoring for AC with 17 and he added 10 rebounds. Chad Lasher also had a double-double with 16 pts and 12 boards. Tabernacle Christian was led by Mark Hall with 14 and Jordan Powell with 13.
The Cougars dominated points in the paint 32-6.
