Newton Man Charged With Rape Of Child

A Newton man has been charged with the rape of a child.

Sergio Alvizures -Abrego was arrested Saturday by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and charged with statutory rape of a child age 15 or younger, statutory sex-offense with a child age 15 or younger, indecent liberties with a child and incest. An immigration detainer was filed against him as well. Alvizures-Abrego is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center with a secured bond of $120,000. A court appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 29th in Catawba County District Court.
